The Knoll at Tigard
The Knoll at Tigard is a mixed-use development aimed to kick-start a new urban center in Tigard, Oregon. Comprised of affordable senior housing above commercial retail, the project is anchored with the goals of low-impact, sustainable development with an active senior living environment that supports aging-in-place.
Lando and Associates designed the site for an active community with the ability for all to participate. Low maintenance native landscapes are intertwined with edibles and gardening opportunities. Lawn areas provide recreation, gatherings and emergency egress for the site. Entry plazas allow for other passive opportunities.
A planted ‘living’ column at the plaza entry is a welcoming, verdant structure rising over 40 feet into the air. The living wall system is a monolithically planted column designed as a passive solar tool for the glazed atrium. It also functions as a stormwater management system for the site where it is aesthetically integrated with the patterns and forms of the architecture and advertises the forward new urbanism direction taken by the City of Tigard.
