The Rocket Building in Portland, Oregon is a LEED Platinum speculative development. The site is a 3,800sf former vacant lot and includes 16,500sf of indoor area on four floors, plus outdoor terraces at each level. The Burnside Rocket is designed to use just 50% of the energy of a typical commercial building.
An innovative geoexchange system uses water from an on-site well to heat or cool air that is distributed through voids in the concrete floor slabs. The on-site spring water also provides a relatively unlimited amount of water for the “edible roof” garden that supplies fresh produce to the top floor restaurant. Additional features include: ecoroofs, operable windows, excellent air quality, and daylight spaces.
As an integrated design consultant, Lando and Associates provided on-structure planting, stormwater management, and LEED administration, with the first use of ecoroof and vegetable gardens in a project.
